Lock down

The Mosier's are officially on lock down, thanks to Franci Christina. Someone has learned the cause and effect of opening and closing doors. At first, it was our peek-a-boo game. She would close her bedroom door (or nearly close it) and then use her little hand to barely open it. She would then peek her head in the small opening and then I'd say it..."Peek-a-boo!". She absolutely loves this game! It is honestly just too precious for words.

So now she has discovered how this applies to all things with a hinge. I'm talking about our kitchen cabinets. It's over folks. We have to lock up everything! There is no way in this world that she should be in them! I know the parent magazines say, "Keep chemicals off the bottom shelves up high..." but you know, I like having my dish soap stored under the sink. This works for me and always has been that way.

This leads to how our morning started. My husband got down on the floor and started installing these kid-proof cabinet things. After one, he was breathing pretty hard. I was thinking what in the world have we gotten into? We're locking up our dwelling and officially baby-proofing.

I must add that we did put those plastic electric outlet protectors in several months back. I swear that I watched Franci pick that thing out and put the plastic protector in her mouth! She is too smart for her own good. Thankfully, she has lost interest in them and has moved on to more important things like:

-her bulb syringe (yea, we suck her runny nose with that thing and she ALWAYS seems to find it!)

-her baby lotion bottle

-the remote control

-her Daddy's glasses (this bothers me because he willingly lets her chew on these!)

-water bottles (we pack bottled water in her diaper bag and she loves to throw everything out and decides what looks good to chew on)

Pretty exciting times are ahead. She starting using her legs this morning to push herself up! AHH! :D

Little Things

All that really matters are the little things. Before I hit the sack tonight, I want to take a moment to list the most amazing little things.

1. My husband warms up my car every morning.

2. Downy softener AND Bounce dryer sheets (no, this is not a marketing plug for P&G)

3. Sweet baby kisses <-- in Franci's case, slaps on my face but she means well :D

4. A surprise DVR-ed "The Gucci Family" program (my hubby thought that I might like it and recorded it for me)

5. Cookies-n-cream ice cream

6. Folded laundry (I must mention that laundry is my favorite thing to do)

7. Fuzzy blankets

8. PJs

9. My bed

10. Fresh air

I was really inspired to brag about my hubby. After suggesting how good ice cream sounded after dinner, he went out in this frigid cold weather and picked some up for me. I love you hun! Those little things will always stay with me.

Christmas is almost here!

I am so excited about this holiday season! I get to share it with my husband and daughter. Sounds a little simple, but its my first year (nearly 10 months) of being a mommy. I seriously can not believe how much my baby girl has grown!

It's been such a blessed year thus far! I am looking forward to our first Christmas!

Margarita!

I am officially blogging while drinking. My husband made some fabulous margaritas tonight so we could watch 300. How lucky am I?! However, seeing the work of art that Gerad Butler has created will remind me of the damage my passion will cause. All the workouts will be a distant memory for me tonight. In fact, the workout went out the window on Wednesday. I did manage to squeeze in a run (a very short rendition) and some 8 minute abs and 8 minute buns on Thanksgiving, but there is no physical action that can cancel out the food intake that occurred over the holiday.

Here I am, Sunday evening about to drink my helping of perfect margaritas! I must also add that there will be popcorn popped at some point. I may squeeze in some veggies left over the veggie tray I made on Saturday's dinner.

As I type this I find my inner voice reminding me of the dress I have to fit in next spring! I'm in trouble....

The Fam

I have just sat down and officially have no plans. I do have a ton of laundry and some online 'screen-shopping' to do before I get out tomorrow. We have just returned from Thanksgiving numero dos and I guess the saying goes that they save the best for last. Well sort of in this instance.

The second destination was a family get together with my family. My poor husband. Let me just explain some things. First, my parents divorced what I was 7. So, oddly as it may seem, my mom and step-dad, along with my dad sat and broke bread at the table today. They were always pleasant and seem to get along just fine. It is just strange to think that these two individuals still are a part of each other's life in such a way.

We had our infamous friend Cheryl over. I love love love Cheryl! I grew up with her and her kids so she is like an aunt or something. However, Cheryl is pretty different. She came in with a beret (nothing against them but hers had lots and lots of sparkles and reminded me of a hat I'd see in Tangerine or Disco <-- the drag show side). I love gay clubs so no judgement from me. I just want to stress the "loudness" of her hat. She is so cool and calm, my husband actually asked me if she smoked. I'm not going to define this term...if you don't know then good for you. :)

My biological Aunt was present along with my weary grandmother "Granny". My Aunt is a little off as well. I won't get into her mental issues as much but I'm sure you can gather some insight from the story I'm about to get to. (I promise to stop this set up but its is important to bring you in "the know" about this).

Let's start:

My Aunt: "Theresa, you look great. You have lost all the baby fat! It's time to have another one."

Me: :Laughs:

My Mom: :Laughs:

Dad: :Laughs:

Me: "Oh I don't know about that!" :Laughs:

My Aunt: "Well all the stuff that I have to make one has long since died. I have nothing left to make one. It would be a miracle if I did have one that my body would support its life".

Everyone: :Laughs:

Cheryl: "Miracles happen every day!"

Me: :turns head away from view and puts head in hands:

Mom: "It would be a miracle for me too!"

Everyone: :Laughs:

OMG!

OMG!

Me: "So how is Summer!?????" <-- Cheryl's daughter. I had to change this subject as soon as possible!

Can you imagine? I mean? Come on! This is NOT table conversation! We're eating here! I could not believe it.

Needless to say, I have a goofy family. I love them all very much. But it really brought out the crazy in the family today. Wow. I'm so glad to be home!

Its time to get a move on

I finally did it. I went to the gym at lunch today. I ran three laps around the track, then headed over to the treadmill for a little more impact on the booty. I found my way to the machines and yes, squeezed in some abs!

I went with some co-workers and stayed pretty much to myself. That's how I like it. I put in my headphones and escape to my music. I sometimes forget how much I hate to work out. It is so hard to get started. After two weeks of this, I will be totally hooked! I have a some-what addictive personality so its only natural for this obsession to occur. I just need it to happen now!

I find it pretty fascinating that people react to music so differently. My songs that give me that extra push completely don't work with others. Just to give you some info:

My Playlist:

Weights
- Chop Me Up - Justin Timberlake & Timbaland
- Rock the Boat - Aaliyah
- Shy Boy - Jordin Sparks
- Piece of Me - Britney Spears

Cardio
- Hot & Cold - Katy Perry
- Disturbia - Rihanna
- Bittersweet Symphony - REMIXES! I love love love techno! I can seriously dance my ass off to techno sans alcohol (that's how much I love this music!)
- The Way I Are - Timbaland

Honestly, the entire Timbaland CD - Shock Value - is pretty amazing

- Love Stoned - Justin Timberlake <-- the cool thing about this one is the slow cool down part at the end of the song..perfect for cardio!!!

Cool Down
- Electrical Storm - U2
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

So some may wonder what in the hell is going on with this playlist. In reality, there are a gazillion songs on my mp3 player and I don't really need to list everything. You get the gist. I think pop rock is the best for working out. Rap is preferred for lifting weights and techno is best for cardio.

I just can't see myself getting motivated to work my butt off to Coldplay or Norah Jones (which are a favorite of mine).

Wish me luck and I'll keep you posted on the progress.

What a Weekend

I am writing my blog while I watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I am finding out that I have to take frequent breaks to wipe the tears from my eyes and watch the reactions of this family and their children. I have definitely changed since having my daughter. I am a little more emotional and cry over pretty much everything involving children and helping others.

This leads to my jam packed weekend of SCRAP BOOKING! I would have never thought that I would ever be doing something like this. For me, it's difficult to organize my ideas. I have a ton of pictures and special moments I find it hard to narrow it all down. I must confess that I almost quit working on my pages. I think that I developed ADD over the past few years. If it wasn't for my Mom pushing me along I would have easily got up and never returned to the mess on the floor.

That's the other thing that bothers me. I can't stand a mess! Franci is crawling now and puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. So imagine cut outs of paper, pictures, cardboard, ribbon, stickers, rubber stamps, buttons and so much more. It's a parent's nightmare really. I kind of think my mom has forgotten what a baby is all about. Franci is super curious (which is awesome) but she wants to know about things I'm doing. Whether it be folding laundry, drying my hair or, in this case, scrap booking, she's front in center.

My husband was out of town and I decided to visit the parents over the weekend. I truly think Franci will be a mamma's girl. We slept together in the guest room each night. When she would wake me up we'd just lay there and play for a while. She is so fun. I can't wait for her be able to walk. I honestly think she gets lonely without me sometimes. For instance, this evening she went to bed at 7:30pm (yes!!). Around 8:45 I heard my lil' one crying. I walked in her room and there she was...sitting up in her crib with her hands around her bars. Poor baby.

I brought her out in the living room with me and we cuddled up in the chair and started rocking. She passed out in minutes. Melts my heart just writing about it. I have a snuggle bunny tonight and she's already sleeping in my bed. I'm headed that after I write this.

After a long weekend of endless "No, don't touch that" and "Get away from kitty's food" and "Come over here" I am beat. I actually have some neat pages for my scrapbook. I don't know how long I can keep this thing going. I may move over to digital scrap booking. We'll see. Time to hit the sack and snuggle with my little love.

New Respect

It has been a while since I've made a post. Time to catch up on what has been going on.

I just took a CPA exam on Monday. I've been preparing for this thing for months! I would normally not drag the studying out but you all know that I have an 8 month old. I felt pretty good leaving the testing facility after it was over. It took me the whole time allotted to complete the exam (4 hours). I wanted to be as thorough as possible.

I have recently had some extreme dental work. We're talking gas and shots and all that jazz! I HATE dental visits!! I was well overdue but I have a beautiful smile to boot! Woo hoo! I still hate dental offices.

My daughter was sick this week. She had a fever, a rash and some severe teething. I was able to get a look at her mouth today and saw three teeth coming through her top gum. Amazing! But all those little teeth cost me my sleep and sanity this week.

To add to everything my husband is out of town - IN FLORIDA! He's on the east coast enjoying some warm weather and sunshine and I'm in Arkansas dealing with a cold front and rain! I was pretty peeved when he called me one night after he'd been drinking. I wished that I could have been the one drinking at the point.

With the hectic week and shuffling mine and Franci's schedules I have found a new respect for single moms. I praise all you single moms out there! It is one hard job! I had absolutely ZERO help from any friends or family this week. I survived and made it to the weekend, but it was a difficult road.

I can't imagine living life everyday on my own, taking care of a baby and working full time. It is hard. Period.

My husband returns tomorrow. He's pretty excited about seeing us. I'm pretty excited about seeing him as well.

The Walk-In Clinic

I just got back from a visit from a walk-in clinic. It's not me who's sick (knock on wood). My husband has been sick for two weeks! The first sign of sickness, two weeks ago, he decides to sweat out his fever. He piled on layers of clothes and wrapped blankets around him and dealt with it. Like a man...is what I think silently. How strong is he? Geez. I would have been reaching for the NyQuil!

See, two weeks ago, after the great sweat out, things were looking good until recently. Monday, before I left for the office, he's groaning and complaining and just being an all around bear. I know that he's acting like a complete jerk off because he doesn't feel good and order him to see a doctor. Frankly, I am not going to listen to his attitude about being sick if he doesn't do anything about it!

That's the thing! I have told him to go to a doctor for days. He would say things like he felt strong and wanted to tough it out. Okay. That's cool too. I just don't want to hear him complain and take it out me or anyone else. So we go to this clinic (it's after 5 and we don't have much choice) and wait. And wait. And wait. For two hours! Pu-lease! I am hungry and irritated. Franci is ready to go to bed and that makes for a hefty handful to deal with.

We get back into the little examination room and the cutest nurse walks in! She's like the kind of person who's every one's Mom. You know those type of people right?? Well I felt like she would handle this. She starts checking things out and stops. She looks at me and John and says that she can't even get a clear view of his eardrum to check for an infection. (Wanna know why?? It's so gross...!) He has a wall of ear wax in both ears blocking her view! Ew! What in the world?!!

She offers to clean them out and I volunteered John immediately! Of course. Get that crap out. So she mixes her bottle of solution and proceeds to wash his ear out. John was turning red, holding his breath and slowly losing composure. This procedure was apparently sending him off the deep end. Poor guy. Ha. Try having a baby! (I honestly have not used this excuse on him...yet.)

Needless to say, he walked away with a prescription and new found appreciation for ear wax maintenance. I, on the other hand, am moody, tired and need a shoulder rub! Seriously, it feels like I have two kids. One is 25 and the other is 8 months. It's amazing what you can find during a visit to a walk-in clinic.

The Bridesmaid

I have a wedding to go to. Yay! My good friend Vanessa is finally marrying Tom Cruise!! Okay so obviously not the Tom Cruise but close enough. Really...you'd have to know her fiance in order to understand this. He is a living, breathing replica of Tom. Just about six inches shorter.

I received the text message over the weekend, "Okay girls. Its time to get your dresses. Give your sizes to .....". Don't you just love mass text messaging?!

So back to the issue at hand. Size? Really? Now? Ugh! I have been putting off actually getting measured let alone making that phone call. So I text back, "So can we alter these dresses if need be?" I had to ask. Vanessa has picked out a very unique dress and I have no idea if it can be altered and still maintain its original form. "Yes, its easier to alter up then down." Sweet relief! (There's no WAY in the world I'll need to alter down and if that happens someone PLEASE slap me!)

Size you say? Why? I'm perfectly fine the way I am right? For those of you lovely ladies out there that haven't given birth, its hard to understand the psychological and physical issues brought on by weight gain, stretch marks, boob deflation and hip widening (and in my case ribcage widening). Yes, Franci hung out with my lungs. She just loved getting as close to my throat as possible during her nine months of residency.

I unfortunately have to call and give my dress measurements soon. But hear me now! I declare war on this bridesmaid dress and we will see who comes out on top in March! (I have a feeling that she moved it from March to May. I'm terrible! I'm so confused though. She's having a catholic wedding and I think lent starts in March and that's why she moved to May.)

I will keep periodic updates on my progress. Perhaps a picture montage in the future? (Oh, 10 pounds by March, May, March...10 pounds by spring.)

Thursday NOT Wednesday!!

I cannot believe how slow this week is going! I am dreading tomorrow. It won't feel like Friday at all because all day today I was certain it was Wednesday. I have been drained mentally. I have a HUGE test coming up on the 20th. It covers everything one would want to know about a balance sheet. I will spare you and won't even go into it.

I have to share that another reason I am so drained is because I have officially declared that I work with 'that guy'. Who exactly is that guy you ask? Well here it is. TG, as we will call him OR her (ha ha...put a twist on it didn't I?) drives me sooooo freakin' nuts!! Since I was forced to work with TG I have come to know the truth. This person is absolutely ridiculous! Not funny, not witty, doesn't add an ounce of insight or drive into my day whatsoever!

When I heard TG's voice today at 4:30 pm I was like..um yeah..see ya. I left. I actually closed up shop and tip-toed out of my cube and beelined it to the backdoor!! I passed TG's Honda Passport on the way out of the parking lot and thought to myself how I will never look at those SUV's the same again.

Things that TG does that drives me crazy:

-says 'thum' when really means to say 'them'<---Seriously. I called TG out on this and no reasonable explanation came of it. Apparently this is a word used in the English language. I'm not that picky, but when you work with bank presidents and CEOs and CFOs regularly I feel that it is important to present yourself with tact, knowledge and manners.

-Manners! TG interrupts every one's conversation. Not only has
TG done what you have done, but better! Way better!

-Who is Michelle Barack? Well TG believes that this is the name of Barack Obama's wife. Actually, it's Obama Barack, according to TG.

-If you go out and eat with TG be prepared to hear everything that they have eaten the whole time. I know more about this person's eating habits and allergies then I would ever want to know. How many times do I have to hear that they can't eat bacon!!!

-TG is on the city leadership council. Scary. Very scary.

Okay. I have aired my head out a bit. I suppose I am bias. I have been sitting on these feelings for a while. I personally can't handle idiots. It's very dis concerning that others actually look to TG for accounting advice. You know, give me some time to read every accounting rule (FASBs as us number crunchers call it) there ever was issued and then I can spit out a mouthful of information. See that's the thing, all the stuff coming out of TG's mouth is nothing but information. In no shape or form is there anything about applying that information. TG's a walking encyclopedia! Wow. I can Google it myself...and I do. :D

I think you will get a laugh out of the nuances that TG brings so I will periodically add to the list in the future.

Oh! Almost forgot. TG says "Gun shot!" to ride up in the front seat. <-- Oh my! Yes, gun shot. (Just in case your mind went blank, it's 'shot gun'.)

Parenting Woes

I am finally home from a busy two weeks. I've been out of town working at 3 area banks and just came back from a weekend visit with my in-laws. Normally people assume that term 'in-law' with bad connotations but I certainly don't have any. My in-laws are another part of my family. I would almost say that I'm closer to them then my own. I must be honest though to how worn out I am from all the running around! Perhaps this is why my husband and I are cranky today!

When you finally meet the person who you want to marry some believe that all is perfect and couldn't get much worse. It does. Add the element of another human being to the picture and you will see more about your spouse then you ever imagined!

I have found that besides the normal arguments all people experience through marriage, how to raise our daughter has become a hot topic. I stepped out of a shower to hear hubs condescendingly telling our Lil one to stop crying. Perhaps it was the tone or the other comments he said, but I was heated!

I tried to explain to him that he shouldn't react to her crying. She's crying because she wants something (this cry-fit was for a bottle) and we can only move so fast to accommodated her need. Patronizing her won't make the situation any better. I think that you have to learn what to really react to. Think about it:

-She's two years old and is crying for a toy or whatever
-She's two years old and is crying as she hits someone in daycare

Which scenario should a reaction be more appropriate for? The point is that I personally believe that not letting a crying baby get to me is the best thing. Of course I will comfort her if she is sick or hurt herself, but when its a fit for something - No thank you.

I have seen time and time again the results of catering every whim a child has. I just don't want to be signing up for Nanny 911 in five years.

I must give credit where credit is due. My husband is awesome at what he does with our daughter! I really couldn't have painted a better picture. I'm just starting to realize the differences of opinion are drastic and I'm going to have to learn to back off. It will be interesting to see how things are several years from now.

Case of the Mondays?

So today I started out my Monday with a staff meeting. Usually, staff meetings consists of ideas of grandeur; someone gets the bug to change the world and hence our 9 am to 12 pm staff meeting. I did manage to type 3 pages of notes during the whole meeting so I would say that I was able to take something away from it all.

The next phase of my day was at 1 pm at the dentist office. I detest this place the most. I had a horrible experience when I was a young child and have never forgotten it. I am slowly regaining the strength to face this necessary place but it has been a rough road. As I am taken back to my chair I realize that I can't do the appointment. They want to perform whitening today and prep me for a crown tomorrow! Um...just a little problem. I had to leave today for Thare, MO. Anyone ever heard of such a place? I surely haven't. So I ended up rescheduling (whew, off the hook for now).

I have made arrangements to have our sitter come over to watch hun bee so that my husband can drive me to a meeting place. My co-worker is driving us so we have to load all my stuff in her car.

My packing list:
- 1 large suitcase
- 1 large bag full of supplies
- 2 laptops
- 5 hangers worth of hanging clothes

Yeah...its a little overwhelming.

We (and I mean we as in my husband) load everything up and I realize that I only have 1 laptop!! So my co-worker and I turn around and head back to my place. Before we head out, we stopped to get some frozen cokes at this one gas station-- it apparently is the only gas station around that sells them. We got held up because this rude man was completely out of line with the only gas station attendant. He was wanting some Skoal pockets. Who knew that dipping could be so much more acceptable if you use a pocket??!! He actually held up the all the customers in the store and was just awful towards this poor woman. He finally said that he would come back later the line started to move. Well guess who came back...like 2 minutes later? So this guy says "I know the manager pretty well. Is it okay if I just come back behind the counter and find what I'm looking for?"

Lets just stop here. I would consider myself a reasonable person. I would have thought that a reasonable person would say no. What happened next wasn't exactly what I expected. The attendant motioned him over and before you knew it this guy was behind the counter searching for his Skoal. Unbelievable!! Some people really ought to evaluate things a little more. Whatever. We are running behind at this point and need to hit the road! We have a 3 hour drive ahead of us!!

I eventually reunite with my laptop and we are on our way. The first hour or so goes pretty well and we hit a small town. Very small. I noticed a police car pull behind us but didn't think too much of it. Boy was I wrong!

Here we are, sitting in an empty parking lot with a cop's blue lights flashing and spot light on us. Geez. My co-worker was given a ticket for going 20 over. She probably needed it but come on! We are from out of town and obviously looked like it. In fact, the sheriff asked if we were moving!

We finally arrived to our hotel room at 10:30 pm or so. What would have been a 3 hour trip took almost 6 hours!!

Here are a few things that happened along the way that I just can't muster the energy tonight to go into great depths:

- my button fell off my vest and I had to sew it back on (I bypassed home ec and took careers in high school)
- I spit out my gum and my hubby stepped in it while loading up my stuff
- I left my bar of soap at home
- I was exposed to non stop chatter ALL THE WAY HERE! my head hurts

I'm here now and ready to hit the sack. I haven't had a Monday quite like this before. Goodnight.

Date Night

As I was typing the words "date night" I found myself facing a new reality; my life will never be the same. No need to feel the sadness of losing my selfish, "me and only me" ways. In fact, I have come to the decision that my life is so much better!

So let me get back to the point here. My hubs and I went out last night. I somehow enticed my Dad to stop by and sit in our living room for three hours. Our little one was sound asleep so I felt relieved that he wouldn't have to really do anything for her. (I love my Dad immensely but he has been out of practice for years! One time I left Honey bee-- our daughter-- with my Dad and I heard a knock on my neighbor's door and there they were; Honey bee was screaming and Dad was holding her straight out in front of him with a panic-stricken face that I hadn't seen on him in looong time. Hence my relief...)

Hubs and I get to our first stop, a sports bar, you know there were a ton of football games on and we need to catch all 50 of them. We order our drinks and find that I don't quite enjoy my Coors Light. I asked the bartender for some tomato juice and made a red beer. Much better!!

I'm kind of bored. I keep getting distracted by baby cries (shouldn't they be at bed?!). I then remember our little one and start talking to hubs about her. Mind you we are out on date night. Isn't the point of this night to get away from our daily regime? Anyways, Hubs starts drinking more and he gets a little goofy.

Definition of goofy behavior:
- Random outbursts of song (that he can only hear)
- Sudden rants of anger towards play calls (mind you there are 50 tvs going)
- PDA <- don't get me wrong, I love to show my affection for hubs but all in good taste
- "Let's party" yelled at the top of his lungs

Okay, so I decided that I had to be the responsible one for the night. Let me say that we had been out for an hour...can you see the trend the evening is going here?

After a few rounds we decide to hit the tables--pool tables that is. I was up two games after winning by default and then hubs came back and was in the lead. The last game I actually won based on legit skills. So we ended up tying it up when all was said and done.

10:30 P.M. - We have decided to call it a night.

Funny to think that we once and not too long ago, would stay up til 3 A.M. On the bright side I have avoided the dreaded hangover, I still got enough sleep in order to wake up at 5:30 A.M. this morning to answer to Honey bee, and I don't feel like my work out yesterday was negated by extreme calorie consumption.

I did enjoy our date night and look forward to the next one.

P.S. Hubs had to sleep in this morning. Someone had a hangover ;D

Please excuse me, I need to go throw up

I should start out by saying that too much Mexican food (including chips and salsa, that crazy white queso that seems to ALWAYS find itself on my shirt, the main entree, glass of water and margarita and lets not forget the flan) will always lead to bad things.

I have been out of town for 5 days now. I've been all over God's green earth in Southwest Arkansas. Besides the occasional gas station and road-side church, I haven't seen many signs of bustling life around these parts.

So this leads to the fact that you can always count on not eating healthy. I have to say that I have noticed that in every town I have been through have a few things in common:

1. Sonic Drive-Ins --- found in ALL rural towns in Arkansas
2. a Mexican restaurant -- which I absolutely love hence the misery I am going through now
3. Wal-Mart retail stores
4. local "dive" restaurants -- kind of sketchy places that you think you had just not go near..just to be on the safe side

There isn't much choice out there. Although, my co-workers and I have been blessed with some pretty notable BBQ joints around this area. We have eaten BBQ two days this week and that's enough for me for six months! I don't necessarily dislike BBQ, I just don't love it enough to consume on a regular basis. We had a choice of BBQ or Mexican tonight and there was no way I was stepping foot in a restaurant with pork and beans as its main entree.

After tonight, I am officially laying off the chips and salsa....for a while.

Late Reflection

I must add that after reading my previous post, I can't help but think, "Wow..I certainly stepped on my soap box tonight".

It happens.

A Day in the Life of an Auditor

I just got back to my hotel room from a client that I have been working on today. I am sitting on my bed writing this and taking in the tasks I have ahead of me this week. My brain has been pumped full of compliance publications and policies and I don't think I can shove another ounce of information in there at this moment.

I have to look at the big picture here. My job apparently is a big deal. I have never really stepped back to look at, but it is. Have you ever heard of an unemployed accountant? (The few exceptions out there are more than likely extreme and brought on by those who are in fact unemployed). Do you really care about this? You should.

My profession is the basis of all business in this country. You name it, an accountant is right behind it. I might add that I'm in public accounting. I have to say this that is a totally different beast all its own. Not only do we need to know our industry we are working for, we have to know how each one operates; this includes all the accounting systems (imagine you work on 15 clients all year- each one has a different accounting system and I have to know how to use it! I should be an IT expert by the time I retire), the laws and regulations residing over each client, accounting treatments established by FASB and GASB (for those who meddle with not-for profit and governmental entities---I would be included in this group) and not to mention all the personnel at each client!

My fellow co-workers and I are exhausted with what we have ahead of us this week. The thing is next week won't make it go away. I do have a responsibility to get things done on time with top of the line accuracy.

Pressure is the game and I play it all the time but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Funny Girl

As I am writing this I am looking upon my beautiful daughter. She seriously makes me laugh. This girl has all the toys in the world to play with and doesn't want anything to do with them! Here are a few things she grabs regularly:

-ribbons
-tags (all of her stuffed animals and toys have tags and she loves them!)
-lotion bottles
-baby wipe packages (anything that is crunchy sounding--she loves)
-magazines (and let me add that any magazine will do and it will be demolished!)

As you can see this list all has something in common. I'm sure that Mattel and Fisher Price weren't expecting this. I told my Dad that the perfect gift for her would be a box wrapped in paper. Seriously. Well besides a trust fund but we can't have it all now can we?

It is quite amazing how the little things are so funny. I love it. It has made me a better person. When I become caught up in this busy world I find my sense of reality from this little person. She is a funny girl and she makes me laugh.

I have to get up in 5 hours...what am I doing up?

After watching Nightline while switching back and forth to AETN's Celine Dion telethon, I have managed to squeeze in one more tv show...the Weather Channel. I suppose this isn't a show but I find myself extremely fascinated with hurricane Ike. In fact, come to think of it, I have been addicted to the Weather Channel because of all the hurricanes hitting our shores this season.

Now I have somehow found myself signing up to do a little blogging. I have NEVER blogged in my life. It is the thing to do now..? Right? Well, I've managed to do something to keep me from having to fall asleep, again.

Suppose I'll see how this blogging thing goes.

Goodnight...but not until I look around this site for a while.
